CLP Certification

There are currently thousands of practicing and experienced logistics professionals in the Asia Pacific region. They range from managers of supply chain operations to specialised IT experts to clerical and warehouse-based support staff.

With the increased profile and importance placed on the Logistics and Supply Chain Management profession in the last few decades, these dedicated and skilled people have not been recognized, as have their counterparts in other professions. For example, accountants have the CPA accreditation, marketing has the CIM and real estate has the CEHA. Accreditation means something in a professional setting – it implies a focus on excellence and a commitment to personal development within the profession.

It is with this understanding that the Logistics & Supply Chain Management Society launched the CLP and CLE programme in 2000, making us the first industry body in the region to do so.

With the emphasis on collaboration in our industry, we invite other industry bodies, associations, groups and societies to work with us in making the CLP the benchmark of excellence for measuring capability and proficiency within the profession of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. The re-launch of the CLP is an opportune time for us to work together and we encourage equal and active involvement.

As a professional certification, the CLP enables employees in the logistics industry to develop their capability more effectively, and in doing so assist in defining the logistics profession. The emphasis on continual improvement of knowledge and skills is timely for an industry that requires skilled personnel to reflect and underpin its importance to our global economy.

The Logistics Profession

Logistics, as a term, embraces warehousing, freight, transportation, and distribution which is part of Supply Chain Management. The days when transportation, warehousing, distribution and materials management were seen as separate functions are gone. Today, professionalism of a high standard is required to manage these complex, disparate functions in a seamless web of integrated events mode with a clear understanding of the need to track the physical goods and services, financial and information flows.

Logistics is a profession that is expected to double over the next decade. The demand for professionals, technical experts and executives will as a consequence continue to rise.

How to become a CPL

To qualify as a CPL candidate, applicants must have relevant working experience, qualifications, and active participation in the Logistics Profession.

The CPL calculator below provides a general guide to your relevant certification criteria. The Logistics & Supply Chain Certification Council will consider you for certification if you earn at least 400 points.

When your certification criteria reaches the minimum 400 points in the calculator below, you can click on the ‘Continue’ button to submit your application for certification.

The Logistics & Supply Chain Certification Council comprises industry representatives, academics, and practitioners who will assess submissions. Your actual points, as assessed, may differ from the calculator’s score.

The Logistics & Supply Chain Certification Council meets quarterly to assess applications. To assist in in the assessment of your application, it is highly recommended that you submit supporting evidence relevant to the logistics profession. For example, if you have a qualification in supply chain studies, the transcript should accompany your application.

Application Fee

There is a S$750.00 application fee. Thereafter, a yearly administration fee of S$125.00 is payable to maintain your certified status and allow continued use of the ‘CLP’ post-nominal.

Successful applicants will also be awarded a Certificate to confirm their accreditation.

Unsuccessful candidates can re-submit applications following re-evaluation of gaps in their qualifications and experience.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Once you have been certified as a CLP, you are effectively committed to maintaining this professional standard by engaging in CPD activities that accrue at least 30 weighted hours per year. Your nominated industry association will assist with details of relevant CPD activities.

The CLP is supported by industry bodies. You must select a body to process your application.

The CLP programme is intended to become the life partner for many in the industry as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is crucial to maintaining CLP status. By attending activities such as seminars, site visits, conferences, training courses and executive programmes you will assist the advancement of your proficiency across the breadth and depth of logistics disciplines. The industry associations will publicise relevant events and activities on their respective websites.
