About the Deferred Payment Scheme

-- FAQs -- In the News -- Locate Us --

The Deferred Payment Scheme is intended for unemployed or low-income Singaporeans who want to gain a qualification that will help them to re-enter the workforce, or get a better job than the one they are currently holding.

This is the first scheme of its kind to be launched in Singapore and is split into two different options.

Option 1

Option one is open to individuals with an income below S$1500.00 (with dependents) or S$1200.00 (without dependents) and who want to upgrade themselves either for better career options or for skills upgrading and who for one reason or another cannot qualify for company sponsorship though the SDF.

pplicants who qualify under this category can enrol in the Advanced Diploma in Logistics & Operations Management and are given up to three (3) years to pay for their course.

Option 2

Is open to individuals who have been unemployed for more than 3 months. Similar to the Skills Redevelopment Programme launched by NTUC in 1996, our objective is to enhance the employability of the Singapore workforce, particularly the older and less-educated workers.

Applicants who qualify under this category can enrol in the Advanced Diploma in Logistics & Operations Management and are given up to five (5) years to pay for their course.

THE DIFFERENCE

There are existing training programmes offered in the market, this training scheme however differentiates itself for a number of reasons:

  • Most of the people who fall into the two option schemes outlined above will not qualify for a bank loan
  • No interest is charged
  • Approval process is guaranteed to not take more than 1 working day
  • The scheme allows people to get a job or promotion and then pay the money back in full or in instalments

RATIONALE

Taking the cue from industry and from government bodies like the EDB, Logistics is a growth sector in the economy and many global companies still see Singapore an important Logistics hub. To maintain and excel in this position the Society feels that Singaporeans need to upgrade their knowledge and skills. This scheme is one of the many industry first’s introduced by the Society to help maintain that edge.

The brainchild of Mr. Raymon Krishnan, the President of the Society, has the additional advantages of being able to make a meaningful impact from a social and professional perspective. By drawing on the resources and expertise of members and strategic partners like the Australian Logistics Academy, not only will the scheme be providing opportunities to more than 100 needy Singaporeans, it will be sending out into the workforce graduates from an organisation that has been nominated by industry as the Best Logistics Education Provider in ASIA for the last two years*.
