Logistics Society forms Chapter with Republic Polytechnic

The Logistics Society has formed a student chapter for students enrolled in Supply Chain Management and Logistics programmes in Republic Polytechnic. Aside from site visits and career talks, the Society will be sponsoring at least one award annually for needy or academically outstanding students.

Raymon Krishnan, the Society's President in an interview with Berita Harian said "We hope to take an active part in developing the skillsets and abilities of Logsitics students prior to their entering the workforce and see this as one of our responsibilities as the National Professional Body for Logistics Practitioners. The annual award and bookprizes are just one of the many ways we can assist underprivileged or academically competent students in their path to learning."

Malacca Strait remains on committee's danger list

LLOYD's Market Association Joint War Committee (JWC) has rejected calls to remove the Malacca Strait from its war and terrorism listing.

According to a report in the Star Newspaper, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia are reported to be upset the strait is to remain on the list as the three governments have been actively working together to step up security efforts in a bid to make the strait safe.

The JWC recently removed the Port of Algiers from the list, while Yemen and Sri Lanka were added.

The Southeast Asian nations were hoping their increased security efforts would lead to the waterway's removal from the list.

The region will reportedly remain on the list until such a time when the JWC is convinced that the initiatives introduced by the regional states are long-term.

For ships traversing the strait, the listing means higher insurance payments for those shipping cargo through the area. Mr Roberts added that at the end of the day the decision was a commercial business decision made by people who pay the price when mishaps occur.
